Consulting on
Energy Performance Contracting (EPC)

Consulting, Energy Performance Contracting, EPC

Energy Performance Contracting (EPC) offers public authorities and private companies the opportunity to achieve energy savings without involving any own capital in modernising their energy infrastructure. In addition, the Energy Service Company (ESCO) bears a guarantee on the cost savings over the entire term of the contract.

Are you considering proceeding an EPC project?

We can advise you on the options for implementing an EPC project in your existing building stock and guide your project to success (from start to finish) with the following services:

1. Orientation Consulting
After analyzing your energy consumption and properties, you will receive an overview of the main energy-saving potentials in your building portfolio. Based on this, we outline key data (investment, savings, main contractual terms), along with its risks and opportunities. Additionally, you will receive information on contract and financing models, suitable EPC providers (ESCOs). As a result, you will be able to decide on how to successfully implement an EPC-project for your properties.

2. Implementation Consulting
We advise you on the implementation of an EPC project, or manage the implementation on your behalf.

This may include the preparation and implementation of a public tender (including all necessary documents and contracts), the assessment of quotations, the contract and award negotiations, and the supervision of ESCOs construction works. After commissioning, we monitor the ESCO’s activities during contract term in order to ensure the guaranteed cost savings .

Our consulting – services are based on over 25 years experience in design, implementing and managing of major energy performance contracts.

Why cities and companies are proceding EPC-Contracts since more than 30 years?

  1. Cost Savings:
EPC allows public clients to reduce their energy costs significantly. By implementing energy-efficient upgrades, such as lighting retrofits, HVAC system improvements, and building envelope enhancements, public clients can realize substantial savings on their energy bills.
  2. Budget Neutrality:
One of the key advantages of EPC is that it can be structured to be budget-neutral. This means that the energy savings generated by the upgrades are used to pay for the project costs, allowing public clients to implement energy efficiency measures without impacting their budget.
  3. Risk Mitigation:
EPC projects are typically guaranteed to deliver a certain level of energy savings. This guarantee helps to mitigate the risk for public clients, ensuring that they achieve the expected financial and energy savings from the project.
  4. Improved Comfort and Safety:
In addition to cost savings, EPC projects can also improve the comfort, safety, and functionality of public buildings. Upgrades such as improved lighting, better insulation, and upgraded HVAC systems can create a more comfortable and productive environment for building occupants.

Project Examples

The main opera house of the German Capital, Deutsche Oper Berlin, has conducted an EPC project with 12 year term. Main technical building equipment was refurbished to a high energy efficiency standard. The ESCO invested  1.6 million euro out of its own pocket, and also guaranteed energy cost savings of 230,000 Euros per year. This project has reduced CO2 emissions by 36%. It was designed and managed by Winfried Haas.
